Central Oregon

Central Oregon is one of the best places in the country to be a kid in the summer. Bend is the hub, with over 100 summer camp programs running between June and August, from BPRD's affordable day camps to private specialty programs in filmmaking, rock climbing, ceramics, and coding. Surrounding towns like Redmond, Sisters, Sunriver, and La Pine add even more options, especially for families looking for smaller programs or outdoor-focused experiences closer to the Cascades. The region sits at roughly 3,600 feet in the high desert east of the Cascade Range. Summers are dry and warm, with cool mornings in the 40s and afternoons in the 80s and 90s. That climate makes outdoor camps here particularly good: kids can hike, paddle, bike, and climb in conditions most of the country can't match. BPRD runs the largest camp system in Central Oregon, with registration opening each spring. Private providers, the High Desert Museum, and independent studios fill out the rest of the calendar.
